The Burlesque Babe costume is no doubt inspired by the Burlesque shows that were popular in the late 19th century through to the middle of the 20th century. Although the shows were originally general variety shows, they evolved to be an elaborate form of striptease performed by one or more women.

The most notable thing about the burlesque show was that the performers wore beautiful outfits and would accessorize with peacock feather fans and other bits and pieces. In the original shows, the performers didn’t strip completely and the performance was more important than the finale. However, with time, there was more emphasis on the stripping and many performers would use the various fans, boas and other accessories to cover their modesty so to speak.

Burlesque shows waned in popularity in the 1950′s as new forms of entertainment connected to new forms of media developed. As movies and television became more widespread, the live shows lost their  attraction to people.

The idea of Burlesque as a performance art has gone through a bit of a revival in recent years. People like Dita Von Teese have made a career out of the art form. Her high profile has attracted a new audience of people the burlesque, both male and female although probably for slightly differing reasons.

Even the burlesque shows have enjoyed a mini revival to some extent. The new shows hark back to the by gone age when the performance was more important than merely taking your clothes off. Again the costumes are elegant and beautiful and the performer tries to leave a little to the imagination of her audience.

The Burlesque Babe costume is a mix of a saloon style dress for women and a dance hall entertainers outfit. Given the top hat, the wearer could even be a ringmaster at a circus.

The costume is described as a cascading dress with has luscious layers of black organza and satin. There is a pink velvet bodice with sheer black polka-dotted overlay and delicate black straps. There is a  ruffle trim along the neckline and cute looking black bow ties down the center.

A captivating feature of the costume is the sassy striped stockings and the fingerless gloves. The final part of the outfit is a  mini-top hat with a pink velvety ribbon and feather.
